Guided bus track looks quite impressive. Glad I don't live in one of the flats that backs into it though it must be said - presumably the builders accidentally building on the guided bus land is the reason the track is about 12 inches from them.

Anyway, was just wondering if anyone know when the track's being put in at the Histon Road end? Where will it branch off the main Histon-Milton Road track??

Cheers

Tom the CGB team have hit time scheduling issues and decided to use the excuse of the 'excessive' curves along the front of Orchard (Arbury) Park to change the Guideway layout here, and NOT use guideway long the section along the front of Orchard (Arbury) Park from the east end to the west end at Cambridge Road (Histon Road actually starts just a little further down towards the City!!).

It will have short guideway sections either side of the road junctions, but the remained will simply be open concrete plinths as 'apparently' the curvature would prevent the bendy buses being able to navigate the corners! There is considerable cynicism about this as the design of this section has been known about for a long time, and the change suspiciously shortens the overall delivery schedule which was behind at the time of it being announced.

I missed the Guide Busway liaison forum this week, but hope to get some news from it from others who attended.

The long and short of it is that the final designs of this section are being drawn up now, building work on this section is expected to start sometime after Christmas, and it is expected to open with the rest of the Guideway in Spring 2009 (sometime around June or July!!)

Thanks, Nick

Nick, do you have any idea how the guided busway is going to effect other bus service in the area? Is it replacing the 4, for example?

The Citi 4 service is not expected to be affected by the CGB...in fact it's specifically expected to remain to serve the public transport needs to the Milton Rd side of town...
