Did you know that you can influence local police priorities in North Cambridge?

These priorities are set democratically by City and County councillors at regular public meetings.

Come along to the next meeting at 19.30 on Thursday 14th August at the Manor Community College, Arbury Road and have your say.

At the last meeting of the North Area Committee, I and other members of the public present agreed to try and publicise the next meeting better. I have been lobbying the city council, police and police authority to try and get them to do their bit to advertise it, and I have also produced the below postcards which I am going to deliver in the area during the period before the meeting.

I have also written to County and District Councillors for Arbury Park inviting them to the meeting saying:

"Decisions made, priorities set, and discussions at the Area Committee are already affecting your constituents and without your presence I am concerned that your constituents are being disenfranchised.  As an example the last meeting contained an agenda item entitled: "Update on Arbury Park" taken by John Pym, New Village Senior Planning Officer, South Cambs District Council.

Policing is the first item on the agenda at the next meeting. While I am aware Arbury Park etc. are not yet in the City of Cambridge; the north neighbourhood sergeant reported to a recent police consultation meeting in Arbury that his team were receiving many "calls for service" from the area, hence the north neighbourhood policing team's priorities, which are set democratically by councillors at the meeting, directly affect your constituents.

While Arbury Park resident Nick Warren did informally represent the area at the last meeting; I think it would be excellent if, especially for the policing section, a district or county councillor was able to represent those who currently don't have a representative on the group who vote on the police priorities for their area.  I am copying the chair of the North Area Committee in the hope that she might formally invite you to participate.

I am aware this is a temporary problem about to be solved by moving the Cambridge City boundary
."
