Helping you learn new things from each other, meet new people and discover talents you didn’t know you had! WAYGA is open to everyone so please feel free to come along.

Through the local library we have the opportunity to set a book group up, one for adults and a youth one for school years 9 – 13. We can borrow up to ten books, place free hold on multiple copies and borrow books for up to six weeks. If you are interested in joining the adult or youth book group please contact me for further information.
IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE
- 'Wild Ideas' I've kicked us off with some ideas on the Wild Ideas page including residents' suggestions. Do have a look at them, let me know if you support them, and add your own!
- Resident input into the Welcome Pack. Feedback on the initial Welcome Pack has been very good, and we will soon need to look at including more information on events, activities and facilities on Arbury Park itself. If you'd like it to have a different look or layout, or have other ideas on what's in it, let me know.
- Sharing stories with children and older people. Many of our neighbours have lived here for 40 years and have lots of entertaining stories to tell about the area. We will be arranging a party for the children at Orchard Park School and our older residents in the neighbourhood to get together for fun, chat and story-swapping.
- Street parties. If you would like help organising a street party, please get in touch.
- Arbury Park Festival. There are many summer events in the local area and in Cambridge, so an Autumn Festival could prove popular. Over the next couple of years more of our community and open spaces will become available for events and activities, so start pooling your ideas now to establish a great annual event. An event in October could also link in with Cambridgeshire Celebrates Age and Black History Month.
- Ideas from residents include: --- planting trees for babies in communal areas for parents with Council vouchers but no gardens --- allotments at Arbury Park --- ESOL classes for residents who do not have English as a first language. If you would like to support any of these ideas, please contact me.
COMMUNITY ISSUES
Update on specific issues raised by Arbury Park residents and workers:
- Lighting at communal bin stores The lack of lighting at these stores is making it difficult for residents to use the bins correctly. Gallaghers have offered to liaise with the individual developers on this.
- Recycling facilities A plea from our Recycling Officer - please use the correct bins (light allowing!) for each recycling facility. Any household waste put in a recycling bin or box will not be taken away. A 'What Goes Where' guide is available at www.scambs.gov.uk/recycling
ARBURY PARK COMMUNITY INTEREST GROUP
The Arbury Park Community Interest Group meets bi-monthly and brings together workers with a specific interest or remit in Arbury Park; e.g. youth, arts, school, planning, early years, parish council, community development, housing, sports. We would very much welcome resident involvement in this group, and meeting days and start times are varied to accommodate as many participants as possible. This group enables me to get information out to residents about the work going on around Arbury Park, and it's where I take issues from residents to the relevant people who can address them. We report to a Steering Group which comprises the Arbury Park consortium partners, i.e. South Cambs District Council, Impington Parish Council, Cambridge City Council and the Housing Associations. Let me know if you would like to attend - or just turn up! Next meeting: Thursday September 18th 10.00am-12.00 noon, Arbury Community Centre, Campkin Road, Cambridge.
